The PSLE is a written examination, administered face-to-face and delivered through paper-pencil tests. All test-takers are presented with the same cognitive booklets or tests, which are aligned with the national curriculum. UNITS OF ANALYSIS Results are reported at the student, school, sub-national and national levels.
The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is a written test that certifies a student’s completion of primary education in Botswana. The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has administered the PSLE annually since 2007. The PSLE serves several purposes, including:
- Certifying students’ completion of primary education
- Designing individualized instructional plans
- Supporting teachers
- Holding schools and educators accountable
- Monitoring learning outcomes and education quality levels
- Planning education policy reforms
The PSLE consists of seven mandatory subjects, including English, Setswana language, agriculture, and mathematics. The test is administered face-to-face, and all test-takers receive the same cognitive booklets or tests.
To access PSLE results online, you can:
- Log in to www.bec.co.bw
- Indicate the examination
- Indicate the year
- Enter the center number
- Enter the candidate number
- Enter the candidate surname
- Click “show results”
- Release Date: Released around December 10, 2025.
- Performance: Over 4,000 pupils achieved high scores of 300 or above, with more girls passing overall compared to boys.
- Access Methods:
- Online: Visit the BEC website and navigate to the results portal.
- SMS: Follow specific SMS instructions provided by the BEC within 7 days of release.
- The PSLE uses a letter grading system with corresponding points:
- A: 75% – 84% (8 points).
- B: 65% – 74% (7 points).
- C: 50% – 64% (6 points).
- D: 40% – 49% (5 points).
